My ex-boyfriend once told me I wasn't ambitious (this was before the ex- part was introduced to the title).
"If I were you," he said, "I would have already become a professional writer."
After a lot of crying and hysterical maybe-we're-not-right-togethers (from me...bet you didn't need that clarification, did you?), he finally convinced me that he hadn't meant to make me feel like even more of a failure in life than I already did and was in fact just trying to convey the idea that everyone makes choices along the way, and I had made choices that led to me not becoming a professional writer. And he was only stating a fact because if I were ambitious I would be writing all the time and getting rejected all the time.
He may have had a point. But of course I couldn't admit that to him. However, I am accepting his unspoken challenge to become ambitious, wordwise.
So I'm using this site to track the history of my serious relationship with words, from the very beginning (that's now) till the full-fledged, undeniable, no-doubt-that-girl's-ambitious zenith. Hopefully it will be a worthwhile journey, but at the very least it will be an interesting one and one I definitely need to take, even if it ends up as only a half-fledged, questionable, maybe-she-has-ambition-maybe-not plateau.
In the meantime, if you'd like to support the cause by hiring me to write words (you can see my previous work here), please get in touch.
